Short answer
Paste the names, pick a font and width, add holes, nest them on a sheet and export. For ribbon-slot tags, start from the Holiday & event templates in the photo tracer.
Built into WeldWords
WeldWords welds every name into one piece, places a movable hole on each, nests the whole list on your sheet, and has stocking-tag blanks with ribbon slots drawn as clean closed cut lines.
The tutorial explains what WeldWords is doing for you, plus what to check before you cut.
What you need
- The list of names
- Material sheet size
- Ribbon or cord width
- Laser software that imports SVG or DXF
Step by step
Step 1
Paste the names
Open the Word maker in batch mode and paste one name per line — the whole family, a classroom, or a full Etsy order.
Step 2
Pick a font and size
Choose a script or bold font and type the finished width. Every name welds into one connected piece.
Step 3
Add hanging holes
Turn on holes. Each one can be moved on its own name without shifting the others.
Step 4
Or use a tag blank
For ribbon-slot tags, open the photo tracer's Holiday & event templates: stocking tags with two ribbon slots, stocking shapes, ornaments and gift tags.
Step 5
Nest and export
Nest every tag onto your material sheet and export full sheets or each name as its own SVG/DXF.
Tips that save material and time
- Ribbon slots in the templates are 4 mm wide — enough for 3 mm cord or folded 6–10 mm ribbon.
- 3 mm plywood or acrylic keeps script joins strong.
- Make one test tag before cutting the full sheet.
Questions people ask
How many names can I do at once?
Batch mode is built for full orders — dozens of names welded, holed and nested in one pass.
Can I move one hole without moving the rest?
Yes. Each name's hole is placed independently.
